while you were out...
A couple of things happened in the week between my old blog and my new blog that I wanted to mention.
-
Hunter S. Thompson died. Thompson was a journalist. He was crazy-smart and crazy-crazy. He was born in Kentucky, I believe. He was pro-gun and pro-drug. He was anti-stupidity and anti-Nixon. Johnny Depp played him in the Hollywood adaptation of his book, Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas. Warren Ellis and Gary Trudeu both created characters based on him. I started reading his stuff about four years ago. He wrote about motorcylce gangs, and drugs, and politics, and music, and most recently sports.
-Last Friday, P.Dirty, B.P. Gonzizzle, and I all played Dodge Ball with some high school kids at our church. I figured it up and it had been 20 years since I played. It showed. I sucked. And I was extremely sore the next morning. For some reason the high school kids hated us. They laughed when we got hit by balls and gloated whenever we lost. We didn't lose much, though. We came in second. I got hit in the face once and the balls once. I think both were on purpose. Supposedly there's a league on Tuesday night. Gonzizzle and I are talking about starting a team. We were gonna recruit our friend Freddy who plays minor-league ball, but he'll be away at Spring training soon. So instead of Freddy, the Dominican Cannon, we'll have to settle for P.Dirty, the Canadian Jewbaca.
Yeah, Tuesday nights is Dodgeball. It's been fun.. next week is the last week. The "championship" round... it's only a four-week event this time. The team I'm on have had our ups and downs... and then more downs. But I'll do it again next time they have a tournament... and I'll be ready this time. :)
I can't believe we missed it. Oh well, we'll just use the off season for training.
