goodnight two keys

For a year and a half of my life, I used to go to a bar called Two Keys every Tuesday night. I would go and hang out with my friend Leo while he hosted a comedy show and did live broadcast for the radio station he worked for. We would eat dinner, have a few beers, and watch the comedians. After a while, I invited B.P. Gonzizzle to join us. From there, we invited another friend of ours, AdSprad. AdSprad invited P.Dirty. Eventually, Leo quit hosting the show but we kept showing up every week anyway. Throughout the year and a half, lots of additional players came and went, including Leo. But B.P, AdSprad, P.Dirty, and I were consistent. Eventually, things started to happen. B.P. got married. P.Dirty started working nights. AdSprad was mauled by a pack of dogs, and a bar down the street started offering better prices - and like that, Tuesday nights at Two Keys were no more.

Last night I found myself in Two Keys again. A friend of mine is getting ready to leave the state for minor league Spring Training, so he, his wife, and I went out to get a beer. We went into Two Keys assuming that the comedy show would just be ending and people would be starting to dance. The comedy show has been happening at Two Keys for something like twenty years. It's a Lexington mainstay, of sorts. So, imagine our suprise when we walked in and found it's been replaced with karaoke.

There were about two dozen people in the bar, the music was blaring, and every song was a country song for the first hour. Eventually the place filled up a little more, but nowhere near how it used to be. And eventually, there were some rap and r&b songs thrown into the mix. It was all kind of sad.

Don't get me wrong - I haven't been to Two Keys in over a year because I eventually got really, really sick of it - and I haven't missed it at all. But it's sad to find out that something that used to be a regular part of your week, no longer exist - and that a Lexington tradition has fallen by the wayside.

I miss it too Patrick. I have a lot of fond memories with you guys there and I got sick of it after seeing the same comedians, three+ times in a month. It was a honor to be with you all and never forget I had my first beer with you guys at Two Keys. Leo, BP and you...then Paul and the tequila-buckett of beer rendevous!

On the other hand...my face healed up pretty good. The lipstick helps from time to time now.

I think it was Michael W. Smith who said, "Friends are friends forever if the Lord's the lord of them." Which is funny, because Micahel W. Smith never calls me anymore...
