sin city

I saw Sin City last night. Thought it was phenomenal. Great cast. Great visuals. It doesn't look like any other movie you've ever seen. If you don't have any patience or appreciation for noir, then the movie will probably grate on you a little bit. There's also some stuff that goes down pretty easy if you're reading a graphic novel, but that you choke on a little in a live action movie. Like claw-life fingernails and facial tatoos. Frank Miller got his start in superhero comics, though, so you kind of have to excuse it. You can take the boy out of the nerd-books, but you can't take the nerd-books out of the boy. Or something.

When the Sin City comics first started coming out, I was still in my superhero phase. So, they went mostly unnoticed by me in spite of the fan and critical acclaim they received. When I finally got around to reading them, I was a little suprised. Miller's stark black and white art was incredible, but the stories seemed like just so much sex and violence. And not particularly clever sex and violence. A few years later, I get it a little more. I can beter appreciate the Phillip Marlowe cadence and the slaughterhouse-like exploitation levels. They're still not my favorite books and Miller's still not my favorite creator, but they're enjoyable and Miller's obviously talented. It's just not my boat he's floating. I thought the whole thing looked great as a movie, though. I never got bored.

And if I didn't already have a crush on Carla Gugino, I would now. Oy!

I agree with you on visuals. Everything was shot behind a green screen, but looked stunning. I can get away with saying that, right? There were a fighting scenes that made the jaw drop. I don't want to spoil them for anyone that may want to see the movie, but I'm sure you know which ones I'm talking about.

I was pleasantly surprised with seeing Carla Gugino and Jaime King. Good stuff. Ga ga ga goy!

Jaime King is hot, but she's no Carla.

Didn't Jaime go by James King? She used to host that horrible fashion show on MTV, House of Style. Look at me droppin the knowledge on yall.

Mickey Rourke stole that movie as Marv. I thought he was the best character in the movie hands down. And Clive Owen (who I really like) was one of the worst just after Britney Murphey.

Yeah, James King. My bad. She has a boys name. Ha.

Micky Rourke did steal the show. I didn't mind Clive Owen, though. And I've always had a soft spot for Brittany Murphy just because she went from being that "thing" in Clueless to a hot chick. But, I'm kind of a pig.

I think the worst acting performance was by Jessica Alba, but let's be honest, nobody cares, because it's Jessica Alba.

Also - Rosario Dawson: Hot.

I was surprised by Mickey Rourke as well. I know they did him up, but is he really that big? He looked freakin' deisel. Also...does Benicio Del Toro always look like shit in movies as he does in real life? Oh...and Elijah Wood will always be Frodo to me. Even if he does where a Charlie Brown type shirt and has wanna be Wolverine claws.

Micky Rourke is one a comeback, I think his next movie should be 9 1/2 Weeks Revisted or he should team up with Don Johnson for a Harley Davidson and The Marlboro Man sequel.

And yeah Micky Rourke is frigin' huge!

That last post was me and I was wondering how i can be part of the Blue Name Group?

He's really that big, I think. He boxes in real life. Benicio Del Toro also had some prosthetic face applications, I believe. That didn't look like his real nose.

I liked Elijah Wood in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I haven't seen those midget movies. He was my least favorite part of Sin city.

To get blue you gotta register with Blogger.

no you dont you just have to list your website.
