james reviews Okkervil River

"I haven't been to a concert where I knew nothing about the band. Last night, on the recommendation of two music gurus, I went to see Okkervil River at the Iota Club & Cafe in Arlington, Virginia. I made it a point to see the band perform without any knowledge of who they were or their sound. Let's just say I was pleasantly surprised. Since I don't know any of the songs, it was hard for me to remember which ones I liked from their set. I was amazed with the pipes of the lead singer as he belted out his voice and gave it his all on every song. One of my favorite songs of the night was Westfall. The performance and energy of the band hooked me onto this song. The 4 song encore showed the versatility of each band member as they played different instruments. They ended the night with a self titled song, and was another one of my favorites for the evening. Over all it was a great show and I look forward to getting their CDs to hear their songs again.

Not to be added to my review. Just an FYI for you.

Oh...as we waited for the band to get on stage, a gentleman placed his arm on my shoulder and said, "Excuse me, I need to make my way through". Who was it you may ask? It was Will Sheff, the lead singer. You're jealous."

Thanks James. You writing sounds like an 8th grade book report. It really takes me back. Your next assignment is five pages on To Kill A Mockingbird.

Classic.

I just noticed he said that last part wasn't to be added to his review. Whoops.

No biggie. I'm not a writer, but I poured my heart into this review. I tried to use the biggest words I knew.

(tear)

it moved me.

don't worry james, it's five pages double spaced.
