close call
Part of my job here at Team Connie's is picking up car parts from dealerships that don't deliver. Today I had to drive to Lexington to pick up some BMW parts. One of those parts was a hood. Hood's are shipped in huge boxes designed to keep them from getting scratched in transit. when I picked up the BMW parts I put the hood in the back of my truck along with a bumper (in a similarly huge box) and strapped them down with a bungee chord. No big deal. Do it all the time. It was really windy out today, though, and apparently I've got sub-standard bungee chords, because not once - but twice - the wind got up under the hood, bent the hooks on the bungee chords, and BLEW THE HOOD OUT OF THE BACK OF MY TRUCK ON TO NEW CIRCLE ROAD. For all you non-locals, New Circle Road is a busy four lane circuit around Lexington. Not the kind of place you want to lose car parts out of a moving vehicle.
Luckily, the hood landed in the grass beside the road both times and only received a few minor scratches. I've heard more than one story of hoods and other car parts blowing out of trucks and coming down on top of other motorist. After the second time I lost the hood I decided to discard the box and strap the hood down over th bumper box. That got me home without any further incidents. I am a genius.
Holy shit! I assume you freaked out by the caps you used in your post. Great story!
Next time we hang out, we should "strap" bp in the back and he could fly out of the truck with the rest of traffic on New Circle Road. Good idea?
this sounds like a project for MW:KY.
I'll start looking for more substandard straps.
By the way - MW:KY will happen. I'm just saying. So, start thinking about summer dates.
it'll have to be before in may or june, 'cause july and august, i'll be in vermont. jaime, we should rent a hotel room downtown for the weekend. assome.
June it is!
