column

New column up at the Harlan Daily. Yesss, I love technologyyyyy...

I was wondering where you were going with the whole "horse's butt" thing... but it all worked out in the end.

[badda-bing]

Never doubt me and my abillity to bring it all around to a horses butt.

i saw a report the other day that said in ten years, cable as we know it will no longer exist. you'll be able to pick and choose which channels you want, and only pay for those.

i think i'm still just gonna rig up some rabbit ears, though.

I love my rabbit ears. They poked a guy in the eye once. Let's see cable do that.

I really don't like technology, but I did invent the comment feature used on blogs all around the world. But other than that, technology sucks.

I invented the little x to close button in the to right corner of all Windows frames. Before that, you couldn't close a frame. It really sucked.

I used to collect CDs, but now I just put everything onto my external hard drive. As Ian pointed out, I technically don't have the CD since it isn't tangible. I could make a copy of the CD, but then again...it isn't the original. I like the ability to use iTunes to organize my music and download a song for 99 cents rather than getting the entire album. Another point Ian made was not being able to put a CD in my truck to listen to it. That is where the iPod comes in. I think BP and I were trying to get Ian to jump on the bandwagon, but he wasn't biting.

he's sooooo 1990s.

I understand it, though. As I'm cataloging my media stuff over at li.brario.us I'm faced with the decision - do I list an album as owned if I only have a digital copy of it? I decided yes but it feels a little like cheating.

The part of me that likes to hold something in my hands or look at it on a shelf really kind of cringes at the idea of the entertainment eventually going 100% downloadable.

suck it up, mary! get on the train or get left behind!

i look forward to the day when all media and information exists in my head. i could live in, say, a "pod" of sorts while i'm hooked up to some kind of supercomputer that controls my reality for me, all the while the computers are sucking my body dry for fuel they need to dominate the world. and maybe there would be a pretty lady in a red dress that i would see periodically on the street. i would be so content.

quick, somebody take that idea and write a screenplay! we could be rich!!!

That is so unrealistic. They would never use your body for fuel.

I like to collect DVDs. I rather have the actual box for the collection rather than a burnt copy. No offense Eddie. I just like having it for a collection. Don't get me wrong, if someone gave me a copy of Red Dawn, I'd appreciate it, but I'd rather own it.

could i trouble you for a copy of "shut the hell up!"?

I'll burn you one.
