column
New column up at the Harlan Daily. It's about that United 93 movie.
really interesting article. If I am going to go see a movie about hijacked planes I'd rather see Delta Force. But in all seriousness it is not that it is too early for me but it is something that is going to be fictionalized becuase no one knows what really happened and probably overly dramatized because that is what bad movies do. And speaking of planes have you guys seen the trailer for Snakes on a Plane? If not it is hilarious and somehow they got Samuel L. Jackson to be in it.
Thanks Hardik. I'm with you on Delta Force and Snakes On Planes. Maybe I'll feel differently about Snakes On Planes the day after terrorist really put Snakes On Planes, but until that day, bring it on.
"...with just enough cursing and beer references to make him appear cool and edgy."
I LOVE this quote. I just checked out your book over at Cafe Press... If there ever was a sentence to stick you in a nutshell... this is it.
Awesome.
Like you, Ms. Um and I went to see Inside Man a few weeks ago, and we saw the preview for United 93. To be honest with you, I felt very uncomfortable and uneasy about the trailer as well. Whenever I see footage from 9/11, it puts me in that state of shock and awe all over again. Whenever Hollywood, Television, or any media outlet talks about this subject, it will always be a touchy issue. As for whether it is too soon, I think that is up to the individual. I don't plan on watching this movie, but I do respect how the movie creators received permission from the families that lost loved ones aboard that flight and portray them as heroes. However, it is like Hardik said, know one really knows what happened up there.
Thanks for the thoughtful comments James.
Scott, thanks for taking a gander at the book. You posted in the wrong section, though. Silly.
Whoops..
9/11 stuff makes me feel funky, too... but I find historical shows about the moment kind of interesting... I think mostly because it happened in my life-time. One of the most interesting to me was called "The Rise and Fall of the World Trade Center" it talked about the engineering feats that took place to build the suckers... and then it talks about the tragedy of the fateful day.
