what i learned today

Bananas could be extinct in ten years.

It seems the banana, as we know it, is a variation of the wild banana. The wild banana is a lot like a plantain, has a large mass of black seeds, and doesn't taste or look much like the banana that you and I eat. Through years of crossbreeding, growers have eliminated the Banana seed almost completely, meaning today's bananas are sterile and reproduce only through cutting. Therefore the banana's survival is highly dependant on huge amounts of fungacides. If a plant disease ever mutates sufficiently enough to resist fungicides, it could wipe out bananas for good.

Scientest recently managed to find 15 banana seeds after digging through 400 tons of bananas. Those seeds (plus genetic modification) are the banana's hope for the future.

Sadness. I love bananas.

Maybe you should send a banana a card today and let it know how you feel about it. That's what I'm gonna do. One day it'll be too late.

screw bananas!

but i like the pic you put of emiliano zapata on your sidebar. it's a lot hotter than yours was.

What? I thought that was Dezi Arnez!!

no bananas.. no monkeys... and the world is nothing without monkeys

Did I overhear you say you'd like to own a monkey? That is a bad idea. It's not all bananas and dancing with toothbrushes, my friend. They poop in their hands and throw it in a festive manner. They also make faces that are unacceptable in society.

I butchered that.

love that skit...

VRDDDD!!! WHERE'S THE VAN!! VRDDDD!! VRRRDDD!!! THE VAN WAS SUPPOSE TO BE HERE!!!!
