read pile

I decided I was going to start posting what comics I bought every week. I figured it would be fairly interesting to JC, the Colonel, and Logan while the rest of you would tolerate it with mild to no interest like you do everything else I post.

The week I decided to start doing this was a really slow week comic-wise. Here I go anyway. I'll probably also start doing this with music. And grenades. I decided I'm gonna start buying grenades. You know, to blow stuff up with.

Casanova #4 - Currently my favorite book being published. It's all about a double-agent spy pulling off fantastical heist against a back-drop of cosmic weirdness, gonzo drug-use, and rock music. It's by Matt Fraction and Gabriel Ba and it's awesome. It's also only $1.99. That's cheap for a modern comic book. This book gets my highest recommendation. Don't take that lightly. I only give my highest recommendation to a small handful of products. Like Funions. I'm pretty sure my recommendation put Funions on the map. Funions. What a great name. It tells you everything you need to know. There's fun. There's onions. I'd give them my recommendation all over again...

Showcase presents House of Mystery - This is a big trade paperback collection of an old DC anthology series called House of Mystery. It features art by a lot of comic luminaries from the past, not the least of which are the late Gil Kane and Alex Toth. Fun, short, creepy stories. Just more stuff to put me in the Halloween mood. Also, along those lines, I'm going trick or treating tonight. Sure it's mid September, I'm 33 years old, and I had a civil trial brought against me for this very thing two years ago... I've got the spirit damnit!

I picked up Casanova 4, Girls 17, DMZ 11, Local 6, and Phonogram 2. They didn't have my copy of Escapists 3 but it should be in by next Wednesday! What a glorious day!

Local 6 is awesome - one of the best of the run so far. Same with Casanova 4.

My store hasn't had either issue of Phonogram that are out so far. I'm gonna have to borrow yours.

You both are so wise. One day I'll be able to talk comics on your level. I'll just sit back and read your reviews and recommendations.

At least tell us what you bought this week.

This thread is for my nerdz.

I'm still caught up in the world of DC. I got the latest 52, and Green Lantern. Both were pretty good. Hal is such a BAMF. Oh...I also got Aquaman. Probably the worst comic out there in the DCU right now.

Oddly enough, I hear good things about Aquaman. The comic. Not BP. I hear the same old crap about him I've always heard. Most of it's true.

Best offerings from DC: Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely's All Star Supreman, Grant Morrison's Batman, Paul Dini's Detective Comics, Kurt Busiek's Superman, and I have moderately high hopes for JLA.

Where do you shop Patch? A+ Comics on Southland Drive has ooldes of stuff. Russ is a pretty good guy too.

A+ is a really nice shop. That's where the Colonel shops.
