things to do: buy comics
If you're going to be at the comic book store tomorrow (longshot for most of you, I know), you'll want to pick up:
Wildcats #1 by Grant Morrison and Jim Lee from Wildstorm (DC/Time Warner)

One of my top two favorite comic book writers of all times re-imagines Jim Lee's flashy, vacuous early nineties Image comics debut - with Jim Lee providing the stiff, cross-hatched artwork that made him a millionaire. His parents wanted him to be a doctor, you know... Here's an article on the book with a handful of preview pages.
The Authority #1 by Grant Morrison and Gene Ha from Wildstorm (DC/Time Warner)

So yeah, Grant Morrison is re-imagining two Wildstorm properties. The Authority was a series created by spookybooty-loving, walking mad-lib internet persona Warren Ellis (and Bryan Hitch). It featured super villains that everyone thought were super heroes and started comic nerds saying things like "wide-screen" and "decompression." It was a good book under Ellis (and later Mark Millar - remember when he was good?) but has floundered ever since. If anyone could restore the book to it's once great heights it's Grant Morrison. Also, Gene Ha does beautiful work. Here's an interview with him that features some preview pages.
Casanova #5 by Matt Fraction and Gabriel Ba from Image Comics.

This week there are books being drawn by a guy name Ha and a guy named Ba. Let that sink in for a second. Done? Okay. Casanova is the best comic book currently being published. Seriously. I love everything about it. It feels like a failed Son of Nick Fury pitch that got retooled into a cure for cancer. I wish every comic book would grow up to be Casanova.
I'll be there.

By the way, I bought all three of those books I recommended. Casanova was fantastic. The other two were very disapointing. I'm not used to being disapointed by Morrison.
