best of 2006: music

Boringly, predictably, the internet is beginning to fill up with "best of lists." And since Patchdrury.com seeks to be on the cutting edge of boringness and predictability, I decided to join in on the fun. So thrill as some guy you don't care about, with questionable taste breaks down his favorites from the year in entertainment. We'll start with music, specifically my favorite albums of the year:

Band of Horses
- Everything All The Time
I was flipping through Magnet magazine and saw an ad for this album. I downloaded one of the singles from iTunes on a whim and loved it. Didn't get around to purchasing the entire album until a few weeks ago when CD Central had it on their listening center and I got a chance to hear the whole thing. Light, ethereal vocals over solid catchy tunes. They sound like a less intense My Morning Jacket at times.

TV On The Radio - Return To Cookie Mountain
I fight hard not to be a music snob. I just want to enjoy what I enjoy and not care what other people think. I really do. But, man, there's this little part of me that hates it when I see TV On The Radio all over the place these days. I love these guys and couldn't wait for Return To Cookie Mountain to come out. When I finally got it in my grubby little mits, it was worth the months and months of false release dates and delays.

David Bazan - Fewer Moving Parts
I've always known people with what I consider good taste in music who were into Pedro The Lion - but somehow, I never got around to listening to them. Back in the summer The Colonel gave me a copy of former Pedro frontman David Bazan's new ep and I was immediately taken with it. Bazan is a great storyteller. Lyrically, it's my favorite album of 2006.
