friday

I mentioned a few posts back that Sara's family had lost a loved one recently. To elaborate, on January 1st her grandfather, Harvey, passed away at the age of 88.

Harvey had suffered from Alzhimer's for the last twenty years. That, combined with the fact that he was moved into an assisted living facility not long after Sara and I started dating meant that I never had a chance to get to know him very well. I have gotten to spend a lot of time with his family, though, specifically his wife of 60 years, whom my Sara was named after.

Last Friday was the visitation and funeral. Several folks who read this blog and several folks from St. Awesome's stopped by to pay their respects. No Nick Name Fred delivered the eulogy. If I didn't' already love that guy, I would love him now. He did a fantastic job and really embraced Sara's whole family.

Sara's grandmother asked me to say a few words at the gravesite. I was honored and humbled by the opportunity.

After the funeral quite a few friends and family members gathered at Sara's grandmother's house to eat and look at old picture albums.

Despite the sadness of the occasion, there were some really nice moments throughout the day. Thanks to everybody who contributed to those moments. I know Sara and her family really appreciate it.

I'm sorry for Sara and her family's loss. It is good to know that she has such wonderful friends and people in her life to help through times like these.

Thanks buddy.
