happy new year

I hate going out for New Year's Eve. Hate it. Going out is always really crowded, really expensive, and really disappointing. Everybody always has this picture in their head of what they want New Year's Eve to be like and the reality almost never lives up to the picture.

Years ago, a few of my friends and I were talking about what our perfect New year's Eve would look like. Mine involved me and a group of my friends sitting at a table stocked with food and drinks at the base of the Great Wall of China, while fireworks went off overheard. I'm not sure why I chose the Great Wall of China. I think I liked the idea of watching the New Year tick over some place where people have watched it tick over for centuries before.

That idea seemed infinitely more appealing than standing shoulder to shoulder with a bunch of drunk frat guys at Two Keys or something.

This year, I got closer to my ideal New Year's Eve than I ever have before. I didn't make it to China, but I did manage to share a table full of food and drinks with a close group of my friends, far away from inebriated collar-poppers.

ET and Vlad had Sara, Dirty, Jennifer (Mike was sick), Charlie The Intern, and I over for the night. We had a blast. There was a ton of food, including homemade egg rolls, Naan-chos, guacamole dip, humus, and pigs in a blanket. Observe:

We all had a blast:

ET and Vlad even had sparklers for us:

We all had a great night. I couldn't ask for a better way to start my new year then to spend it with a group of people I love.

On a somber note, the next morning, Sara's family suffered the loss of a close loved one, making their first day of 2007 a sad one. Keep them in your thoughts and hold your loved ones close. Note everybody will see 2008. Don't waste time not loving each other.

What great pictures. You must have taken them on your awesome camera.

That thing truly rocks. Best camera ever.

Um...wait until I bring my Polaroid to MWK3. It makes instant pictures. Technology is just crazy these days!
