Casanova 7 - Matt Fraction and Gabriel Ba's incredible first arc of Casanova draws to a close with issue 7. I can't recommend this series enough. I feel like this is the comic I've been waiting to read for the last ten years. Its' funny, hip, exciting, and imaginative. Fraction uses a handful of pages in the back of each issue to kind of open up his head and show you where each story came from. The back matter for issue 7 is full of some really touching personal stuff. I read it to Sara and she almost cried. I can't wait for the second arc to begin. Fraction estimates it coming out in late summer/early fall.
Nextwave 12 - This is the last issue of Warren Ellis and Stuart Immonen's Nextwave series. I can't remember if I read it was going away due to low sales or Immonen moving to another project (I know he's going to be drawing Ultimate Spider-Man, but I don't know if that's cause or effect). Either way, it's going the way of all flesh, and I will miss it. Nextwave was a comedy/action piss-take of the super hero genre (and yes, I still hate when Americans use British slang, but I couldn't come up with an American equivalent there that I liked as much). Fanboys hated it for it's lack of "respect" for the characters. It was also notable as the book where Ellis showed a lot of self-awareness of his writing tics (God, I hope it was self-awareness) and the ability to make fun of himself. This book (along with his work on Ultimate X-Men) pushed Immonen up to the upper reaches of my favorite artists' list. Really fun, quirky stuff.
