weekend

Haven't done one of these weekend posts in a while. Let's revisit the concept:

Friday - Spoke to three groups of teenagers about sex at St. Awesome's (meaning I was at St. Awesome's when I spoke, not that I talked about literally having sex in the building). I spoke to junior high boys, junior high girls, and a mixed group of senior high students. Oddly enough, I felt like I did the best job and got the best reaction from the junior high girls - a demographic I felt completely uncomfortable with prior to speaking. Here's a picture of me being all sex-talky:
"Blah blah blah..."
Two of the topics I covered in my talk: sex with robots and why greeting cards are better than sex. I expect the angry email to start later today.

Saturday - Spent the day at St. Awesome's volunteering as video director - tried to get them to have church outside as it was gorgeous out that day. No dice. After that headed to Porta Bella's with Sara and her family (including visiting step-brother and step-sister). Had Veal Marsala. Everyone made sure to point out that I was depriving baby cows of their life. I remained nonplussed as I'm not convinced life as an adult cow is all that great. Hung out at Sara's house for a while after dinner listening to her step-brother play Paul Simon songs on his guitar. After that I went home and tossed and turned in my bed til about 3:00 am. Ugh.

Sunday - Back to St. Awesome's for rounds two and three of video directing. After church went to Shamrock's for lunch on the patio with ET and Sara. I'm thinking this may have to become a Sunday tradition - open to whoever wants to join us. After lunch headed back to St. Awesome's for the final day of dodge ball. Our team went into the tournament ranked as first seed. We left the tournaments at like fifth place. That sounds like we did awful - but in our defense anybody who beat us had to work at it. A couple of our games went for like 15 minutes it seemed like. A lot of tempers flared throughout the afternoon. At the end of the day, though, you ignore the arguing and the silliness and you have fun with your team. I would sign up to play again with the guys on my team in second.

After dodge ball the night got a little hairy. Sara's grandmother was taken to the emergency room because of a high fever (she had surgery last week). Her condition seemed to improve after she'd been there for a while - but they still decided to keep her over night. When we left the hospital Sara, her brother Sam, and I went and got some Mexican food. The air conditioner wasn't working in the restaurant, though. And there were some mariachi guys singing at full blast. I really thought I was in Mexico for a while. After that - home and to bed.

st. awesome's invited you to talk about sex, huh?

alrighty then, i guess i should expect my invitation to talk about comic books to arrive anytime now.

see, it's something i know nothing about. get it? like you not knowing anything about your topic.

'cause you're gay.

oh, unless you were talking about gay sex. ok, see. now i get it.

previous comic book comment redacted.

Words hurt.

So did you explain that your expertise on the topic was limited to manual stimulation done while looking at She-Hulk comics?

Geez, guys. Still trying to run a family-friendly blog here...

Just tell me you didn't dance a Colonel-like jig and sing "we're bringing abstinence back, yeah! Take it to the living room."
